What is Truth?
This is a question Pilate asked of Jesus in John 18:38 “Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no fault in Him at all.” Pilate was unconcerned about the answer for he did not wait for the Lords reply.
The whole world needs to know the answer to this question! Without it, there is no salvation. Its answer is essential. Jesus revealed what truth is in his prayer to the Father in John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” God’s word is Truth! Without Truth and obedience to it no man can be saved. Many may claim to believe or have faith in Jesus, but it is worthless without works (obedience to the Truth). “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “IF you abide in My WORD, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you Shall KNOW THE TRUTH, and the truth shall make you FREE.” (John 8:31, 32). Faithful and humble obedience to God’s word is the only way to be FREE from the penalty of our sins.
Faith by itself will not accomplish freedom of sins. Faith without works (obedience) is dead. We are not saved by “faith only” (James 2:20-26). Many of the chief rulers truly believed in Jesus but they were not saved. (John 12:42-43).
The love of God’s word (the Truth) is paramount and should be ever before us. “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” “Your word I have hidden in my heart,That I might not sin against You.” “Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!” (Psalm 119:97, 11, 127). Those who do not “love the Truth” will be eternally damned. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12. “that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). By taking heed to Truth we are saved. “ Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth” (1 Peter 1:22)
