What Does It Mean To Be Lost?
To be lost means you are “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1. 5), “dead in your trespasses” (Colossians 2:13), “ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) “As it is written:“There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). To be lost means you are “that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.” (Ephesians 2:12).
To be lost means that at the end of life’s way you will be “cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10). The apostle John continued to say “12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:12-15).
Some day all men will have to give an account of how they have lived their life – “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” (II Corinthians 5:10). One of these days “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” (John 5:28, 29).
Unless you “obey the gospel” (II Thessalonians 1:7-9) you will continue to be lost in your sins — separated from God physically and spiritually. You can be rescued — saved from being lost Jesus said men must believe in him and the gospel and repent of their sins (Mark 1:14-15; John 1:12; 6:29; 8:24). “I tell you, no; but unless you REPENT you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3) Repent and be baptized today for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38).
