Are Sinners Saved By The Grace of God?
Yes, sinners are saved by the grace of God. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Grace is the unmerited favor of God. We cannot earn it. We cannot place God in our debt. There is no way we can obligate God to save us by works of righteousness which we have done. Thus Titus 3:5 says “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” However, this does not give anyone the right to say, “since I cannot earn salvation, and it is a free gift of God, I will just sit back and do nothing.” To say and do that is to forfeit God’s saving grace.
We are saved by grace, but NOT BY GRACE ALONE! If salvation were by “grace only” then it would logically follow that all men should be saved for Titus 2:11 says, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,” God grace has appeared to ALL MEN. Therefore, if salvation is by “grace only” then all men have been saved! If anyone that is lost, it is God’s fault for man has nothing to do with it. But such is not the case.
Salvation by grace has been extended to all men but there are conditions attached thereto. Man must accept God’s grace through faith and obedience. Men must meet God’s condition in order to receive grace. But, still, man has not earned it. I may hold in my hand a cashier’s check for $1 million dollars and say that whoever wants this check can have it. But as real and genuine as that check is, it will do you no good unless you sign it, take it to the bank and cash it. By doing so, does that men that you have earned it? Not at all. But, you had to have faith that I would give it to you and then take the necessary action by taking it to the bank and cashing it. God’s grace is free, but certain conditions must be met to receive it. To say or believe otherwise is to believe in universalism, the idea that everyone will be saved: murderers, fornicators, drunkards, idolaters.
To receive God’s grace, one must: believe in Christ (John 8:24), repent of sins (Luke 13:3, 5), confess (Matthew 10:32), be baptized for forgiveness of sins (Acts 22:16). Are you ready to accept God’s saving grace? The only way to do so is by meeting the conditions God has given in His word!
