Who Created Hell?
God did. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . .All things were made by him and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3). “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16; cf. Hebrews 1:2).
Some suppose the creation of hell is incompatible with God’s nature. It is a matter of JUSTICE – RIGHTEOUSNESS! In Psalm 89:14 we read in reference to God, “Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne.” The point is, no evil can be in His presence. Regarding heaven, inspiration says, “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” (Revelation 21:27). “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
Hell was made for the devil and his angels. Regarding judgment we read, “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41). “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10). Though hell was not originally intended for man, it will certainly be his destiny when he dies unprepared to meet God.
You can escape that terrible place by obeying the gospel (Mark 16:16) and living faithful unto the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58; Revelation 2:10). “Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” (Revelation 22:14-15). He that sins (lives like the devil) can expect to share hell with him through eternity. If you don’t think so, just wait and see! Repent and be baptized (Acts 2:38)
